Aphorism: A miss is as good as a … mile.
Origin: The first example found in print in the USA is in the journal The American Museum, Volume 3, 1788, but there are similar sayings using different units of measurement that date back to the 1600’s.
Meaning: It doesn’t matter whether you missed something by a little or a lot, if you did not achieve your goal.
